Spinning Demonstration

Quincy Homestead will be open for tours on August 19 from 11 am – 2 pm and will feature a spinning demonstration by Zoe Lawson. The Homestead was home to four generations of the Quincy family, including Dorothy Quincy, wife of John Hancock. Zoe Lawson acquired a passion for spinning at a early age. Her parents were active in Revolutionary War reenactments and she spent most of her summer weekends in 18th century encampments. After a spinner at one of the camps taught her some simple techniques when she was eight, she came home, found a top she had made at the Boston Children’s Museum and started spinning. She’s been practicing the craft ever since. Lawson has given spinning demonstrations at craft fairs, such as the Gore Place Sheep Shearing Festival, historic sites, such as the Paul Revere House in Boston, and schools. Tours at the Homestead are on the half hour beginning at 11 and a donation of $10 is requested. Quincy Homestead is owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and managed by the Massachusetts Society of the Colonial Dames.
