Quincy to Highlight Martin Luther King Day with Breakfast & Service Day
QUINCY - The Houghs Neck Community Council (HNCC) has been awarded a mini-grant from the Massachusetts Service Alliance to host its “Second Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day” on Monday, January 18th from 12 – 3 pm at their Community Center at 1193 Sea Street. Families and youth groups are invited to attend an open house set up with five service stations. Activities include a winter coat drive, letters to troops, goodie bags for homeless children, valentines for seniors along with creating and planting an herb garden. Products donated or produced will be distributed to Quincy and South Shore youth and families via partner agencies. The coat drive is in partnership with the First Congregational Church of Milton who has administered the drive for several years. Coats are cleaned by We Care Cleaners and Dependable Cleaners. Interfaith Social Services, Cradles to Crayons, and St. Francis House are also partner agencies in the coat drive to help with distribution. Letters to troops will be handed off to Care Packs for delivery to active personnel. Goodie bags for homeless children will help toddlers, youth and teens. Those packages will be distributed by Birthday Wishes to families in need that live in the South Shore. HNCC is pleased to partner with the City of Quincy Department of Planning and Community Development to make this happen. Individuals or groups may register for this event at https://hnccmlkserviceday.eventbrite.com Additional questions or comments may be directed to the Event Coordinator, Zoe Antonopoulos at zantonopoulo@gmail.com.
