A HUGE Thank You! As we mentioned in an earlier post, thieves broke into a storage closet at Fore River Club House on 16 Nevada Road and stole bikes, toys and other goods that were to be donated to Boston Children’s Hospital by the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

After hearing about the theft, Granite Telecommunications employees across five states held an impromptu “Jeans Day” fundraiser on Tuesday, July 14, to raise the money to replace the stolen items. Granite Telecommunications, whose headquarters is located at 150 Newport Ave Ext, agreed to match all funds raised by employees.

Local Toys for Tots Public Relation Assistant Coordinator Corporal Vin Dolan and Master Gunnery Sergeant Nick Anastos accepted a check from Granite Telecommunications CEO Rob Hale for $5,000. Mayor Tom Koch was also on hand for the presentation. The money will be used to purchase new toys and get them into the hands of the children for whom they were intended. Last year, Toys for Tots distributed 169,000 toys! If you would like to make a donation to Toys for Tots, please visit their website at http://donate.toysfortots.org.

If you have any information on the theft of the toys, please contact Detective AJ Carthas at 617-745-5782.
